The Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) Scholarship Program is designed to encourage and recognize the achievements of the children of full-time employees of BEPC and its subsidiaries, and the children of member-cooperative employees and consumers.

The recognition will be in the form of scholarships to assist their college education.

The BEPC Scholarship Program will award over 160 scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. Two of 20 scholarships for children of BEPC or subsidiary employees will be designated for qualified applicants who plan to attend a certified Vocational or Technical school. Twenty will go to children of member-cooperatives employees, and over 120 to children of member-cooperative consumers. There will be one $1,000 scholarship for each member cooperative to award to a dependent of a consumer member.
The scholarships must be used for educational costs, and the student must enter college in the fall of the school year for which the scholarship is given. Checks will be made payable to the school, and will be distributed to the school by BEPC. Scholarships will be distributed in two equal installments, the first installment in August and the second installment in January.

Dependent children of member-system consumers are eligible. Also eligible are the natural or adopted dependent children of full-time employees of BEPC, any of it subsidiaries, or member cooperatives who have been employed there for a minimum of two years as of the application deadline.

The applicant must also be a U.S. citizen.

The applicant must be a student who is enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time graduate or undergraduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school.

Previous BEPC scholarship award winners are not eligible.

BEPC scholarships will be awarded without regard to other awards, loans, or financial assistance the applicant may have obtained.

Awards are based on the following criteria: SAT/ACT scores, grade-point average, work experience, participation in school and community activities, a statement by the student explaining his/her educational and career goals, financial need and a written recommendation by a third party.

Applicants for the member-cooperative employee dependent category will first be screened by their cooperative. Each member cooperative will be responsible to forward one finalist to be considered for this category.

Member cooperatives will be responsible to select one recipient to be awarded a scholarship in the member-cooperative consumer category. The final recipient's completed application will then be forwarded to BEPC by the member cooperative.

Member cooperatives must have their finalist in the employee dependent category and their winner's application to BEPC by March 1st.

A BEPC selection committee will screen applications from the BEPC and subsidiary employee group and will make the final selection in the member-cooperative employee dependent category. That selection committee will name the final scholarship winners and will assume responsibility to distribute the awards.

Upon notification of their selection, the scholarship award winners, or the member co-ops, are asked to notify the BEPC human resources division with the name and address of the school the student will be attending. It is also important to know if the student has switched schools, or has decided not to attend.

Except for the requirements outlined in this brochure, no obligations will be imposed upon the student as a scholarship award winner. Other than payment of the scholarship, no obligations or liability are assumed by BEPC, it subsidiaries, or member cooperatives.

To apply, you must complete the required criteria and the scholarship application, which can be obtained from your local electric cooperative office or from BEPC's human resources division (701) 223-0441.

Children of member-systems employees and consumers must return application to their local electric cooperative office by the 15th of February.
Children of BEPC and subsidiary employees must return applications to the human resources division at headquarters by March 1st.

The applicant is responsible for submitting all necessary information to apply for a scholarship.

The applications must reach your cooperative by the given deadline for a scholarship award beginning with the fall semester of the year of application.
